ICA Maxi director jealous with MangoManjaro

With less than a week until departure, we’re busy doing everything from weighing every little thing that we’re putting in our backpacks to spending time with our siblings.

We’re also currently looking for local support from entrepreneurs who are willing to send their products to addresses where we’ve stayed.

Wednesday morning we visited a big local group of business owners assembled at a meeting especially arranged for discussions about Gotland’s future. They gladly gave us around 10 minutes to talk about MangoManjaro and spread some good words about the Chicken Dance and the tour. Before we left, we got plenty of interesting comments. “Everybody in this room is jealous”, said the director of ICA Maxi, the largest supermarket on Gotland. A different person said “We wish we did that – 20 years ago”. We smiled as we replied “It’s not too late. Wanna come and join us?”.

To all Gotlandic people: We’re still looking for tastes, images, and sounds from Gotland to market along our route!

Regarding the pledge:
So far, three  four  people pledged money to help us buy a better camera. That’s about 600 euro. For a second we thought, “hmm, maybe we’ll have to stand the old camera”. Then we saw a short film made with it.
And…we’re no longer planning on standing it.
So, folks, this is for you!
Get HD-Chicken Dance shots with the camera that YOU sponsored :) !

We’re also looking for local support in the countries that we’re going to. In this case, Poland is no. 1 on the list. Do you want to dance the Chicken Dance with us in Krakow? Or let us sleep on your coach in Slupsk? Maybe you have ideas about places we shouldn’t miss, things that we just have to see, or water that we just have to swim in? Contact us!

Please Be Stupid

Do you work with something you don’t love?
What would it take to make you quit?
What would happen if you stopped instantly, walked away and left?
What would happen if you did whatever it is that you love working with instead?
What would happen if you did that, right now, regardless of where you are?

The last three years I’ve been working full time as a web developer in Stockholm.
I used to love it.
A few months ago I found that most of the time I had my mind on completely different things.
My body was present, but my mind wasn’t.
For some people that’s perfectly OK, but for me it isn’t.
I wasn’t passionate enough, it was time to move on.

My friend used to start singing “The Rose” by Bette Midler while at the office. That was purely out of passion.
Sometimes he swore at the computer for not compiling with his wishes.
That’s passionate as well, but that’s not the kind of passion that I’m talking about here.

So, what is passion?
Passion is not something to ignore nor dream about.
Passion is very real and very important.
It’s something that you should treat with the greatest respect and sensibility.
Passionate people blister, glows and shines.
Passionate people changes the world.
How would the world turn out if all people followed their passions?

I don’t have one specific passion, I’ve got several.

I’m passionate about:
* connecting with people
* tasting flavors
* positive psychology, it is in my veins
* hitchhiking- makes me smile
* Amanda
* personal development
* having and sharing fun
* organizing crazy things, such as the Chicken Dance
* adventure
* dancing
* participatory culture
* outdoors

That’s why I’m doing this right now.
I started following my passions instead of staying at a place that didn’t speak to my heart as well as to my wallet.
At my old working place I actually tried organizing a “Glee” inspired musical group. That didn’t catch on with my co-workers.
Now, we’re doing it the international way instead by arranging the Chicken Dance and other related upcoming events!

I’m extremely excited about this project!
What are you passionate about?

One week left!

We have now completed our work (in Stockholm and Visby) since a week. Before that we only worked with MangoManjaro when we met each other at weekends, and late hours over the phone during the weeks.

Our new life is temporary set in the idyll of Herrvik where we’re warming up our thumbs, testing the equipment and picking mushrooms when we’ve got the time. Before departure, we’re looking forward to a dramatic survival camp with our siblings, their friends and all creatures of the forest. This week also means that we go around to different clubs, branches and groups to brainstorm on collaborations and possible further ambassador plans.

As soon as we face the question “What are you doing next?” we’re taking the opportunity to tell people about the journey and ask them: “What would you like to see from our trip? What would you do if you did this?”. We have received many interesting responses. “Toilets”, suggests a famous Swedish playwright. A game designer wishes a survey of game culture, while others have asked to see pictures of / read stories about food, patterns, tree climbing goats, homosexual culture, etc!
The idea to ask many people in different countries the same question has inspired us a lot.

Is there anything special that you want to see or hear?

Cancel your life #4- Prepacking

How many shirts do you own? How many handbags? Towels, computers, pairs of shoes? In western countries, we usually buy and keep a lot more than necessary.
How much out of what you keep in your wardrobe is stuff that you REALLY need?

Different needs are created in different situations. You might for example feel like you’re in need of new coffee cups for your kitchen, though the ones you have are not broken, just old or maybe out-of-fashion.
Nobody wants to travel with an overweight backpack! To plan your packing well and make it light and easy, you need to go back to your essential needs.
Going for the essentials is also a great way to be economical and even climate smart.

Make a list of the things that might fit your needs, while staying within your budget, and invest in those.
How can you always have somewhere to sleep without spending lots of money? This might be the right time to buy a tent!
Does your budget include self-cooking? Then a good gas-burner might be your next choice, etc, etc.

You will obviously need clothes to stay warm as well as clothes that doesn’t overheat you. Certain religions/cultures might also be easier to meet if you carefully dress depending on where you are.
Except for this, go for ONE pair of pants, ONE pair of shoes, and so on. That’s all you need. It’s light and it’s cheap.

Even if you’re not going to travel the world with just a backpack, maybe the idea of your essential needs can help you creating a smaller budget for next month?
